Start of the new school year
It has been a fantastic start to the new year! The school looks amazing! All staff have worked incredibly hard to ensure your children are provided with an environment that helps them to learn!
The children have all settled in well to the new year, particularly our new children in nursery and reception. Every time I visit their classes, they are on task, busy and learning.
I hope you have had an opportunity to say hello to our new deputy headteacher, Mr Omar Jennings. He has already having fantastic impact across the school. His introduction of the Samba band is a great addition; every Tuesday, the school in filled with a carnival atmosphere.
As always, the door is always open and I love to hear your thoughts and ideas.

Another fantastic week at Nightingale! I have seen some great learning taking place at school. This has included children in the nursery applying their phonic knowledge when playing a game, children in year one using numicon to solve number problems and children in year four making their own Lego models and then using the computer to program it to do certain things.
Year five and six are busily rehearsing for their production of 'The Wizard of Oz'. They are all quite excited that they will be the first to use the new stage system we have bought.

The sun is shining!
I don't know about you all but I always feel so much happier when the sun is shining. I wanted to share with you some feedback I have been given recently by visitors to our school. All visitors, from our local MP to visiting teachers, stated what a great atmosphere there was and how well behaved all the children were. Visitors have also commented on the quality of learning, the quality of displays and how welcoming all members of the school have been. I cannot express how proud that makes me of our school.

What a great week!
What a great week it has been! I hope that you all enjoyed the long weekend and got an opportunity to spend some time in the sunshine!
The children have all been working really hard and focusing on their learning. I have had a queue of children outside my door wanting to share their learning with me. I was particularly impressed with Ishra, gary, Saif and Sudesh who created some amazing fact files about countries competing in the world cup. Yonis also has been working really hard to memorise his times tables. He had such a huge smile on his face as he demonstrated his knowledge that it made me so incredibly proud.
The children in year 2 and year 6 are also working hard in readiness for their end of key stage assessment. I know that all the adults and children are determined to do their best and be successful. I know that you will all be thinking of them as they sit their exams; I'm sure we all remember how anxious we felt when sitting an exam.
Today we had a visit from Nick Raynsford. Nick is the MP for the local area and it was a pleasure to show him around the school. Nick was joined by Matthew Pennycook. Matthew is the prospective candidate for the local area in the upcoming elections. Both were really impressed with the atmosphere of the school and the behaviour of the children. We also spoke a lot about the issues facing the local area and problems around housing. Both were very committed to improving the standards for their constituents.

The sun is shining!
Welcome back to all of you in this our final term. I find that as I get older, the time seems to fly faster!
The children have all settled back into class very well. I have never seen children so excited by doors and walls as we have had a considerable amount of building work completed over the break. We now have classrooms rather than the open spaces. As you can imagine, this is going to take some time to get used to but I am certain it will have considerable impact on the learning that takes place.
We have had lots of visitors in recently including Tracey Russell, assistant director for children's services and Andrew Binnell, our school improvement partner. Both very very impressed with the quality of learning, the environment and the atmosphere of our school. It is always fantastic to receive such positive feedback.
Today we have had class photos taken and also a whole school photo. This was brilliant and all the children behaved fantastically. We will let you know when these are available to buy.
This is an important term as lots of children will be completing their end of year assessments. The staff are working incredibly hard to ensure all children are able to do their very best.
Please also remember that school is closed on 22nd March as we are being used as a polling station.

What a fantastic week it has been! All children have taken part in their assessments this week. I have been so impressed at how focused they have been. Lots of children have been sent to see me because they have made great progress! I will be writing to those families where children have made greater progress than we would expect.
I have also seen some fantastic learning taking place.

This was a great piece of learning from Team Gardner. They were looking at cubist art to identify different types of angles. I think it is brilliant when teachers make links like this to support the children's understanding.
I also need to say how proud I am of the staff at Nightingale. On Sunday 16th March, many members of staff took part in the 'Where's Wally?' fun run to raise money for The Literacy Trust.
It was a fantastic day, with a brilliant sun warming us as we ran around Victoria Park. Congratulations to Mr Smith and Mrs Beach who ran 5 km in 26 minutes! I managed to wheeze my way around in 37 minutes!
I think Nightingale is a pretty fantastic place to work. It is a pleasure to come here everyday. What do you think is the best thing about Nightingale? Why not post your comments below?

Welcome
One of my favourite parts of the day is when I walk around the school in the morning. I try to ensure that I walk into each classroom and talk to the children about their day and what they are going to be learning about. I have been so incredibly impressed at how settled the children have been, how focused they are on their learning and well behaved they have been.
I have also seen some fantastic teaching from our talented staff. I spent a few minutes in reception and sat with Mrs Renoo and a small group of children. They demonstrated great behaviour and respect towards Mrs Renoo and really enjoyed their learning. It was a pleasure to sit with them for some time. I really enjoyed myself!
